ARCHES is a voluntary confederation of affiliates that come together to focus on the issues facing schools in a local region. Affiliates include educational institutions of all levels, statewide programs, efforts funded by foundations, current collaboratives, community-based organizations, businesses, foundations, and others concerned about quality education. By collaborating to leverage the resources and talents each affiliate brings to the task, duplication of effort can be avoided and enhanced school effectiveness can be achieved. The involvement of the affiliates will determine the success of ARCHES. This web site will serve as the common meeting place to create a learning community on regional collaborations and their role in best serving the students of the state.

What Affiliates Are:
Statewide programs and regional collaborations will be connected to ARCHES as "affiliates." While affiliate status will be an evolving definition, influenced by the experiences of ARCHES and the affiliates, a first attempt to define affiliates follows:
An affiliate is:
- A statewide program or organization that voluntarily wishes to collaborate by leveraging its expertise and resources with like-minded groups to focus on school reform that leads to enhanced student success; and,
- A program or organization that is willing to engage in a statewide dialogue regarding "lessons learned" and "best practices" in order to enhance that particular program and to share knowledge and expertise with others attempting to achieve similar goals.
An affiliate is not:
- Subsumed under an ARCHES umbrella so that the individual program's identity is lost; and,
- Governed in any way by ARCHES and/or its Advisory Panel.
